It Finally Pays to Be a Slob in MyFax Messy Office Contest: Internet fax service provider offers $10,000 Grand Prize for
photos or videos from t
OTTAWA (Business Wire EON) January 21, 2008 -- MyFax, one of the leading Internet fax services, today announced the launch of its MyFax Messy Office Contest - an online search for the office or cubicle most likely to make the average neat freak go into convulsions with a single viewing. The company is even offering a $10,000 grand prize to the winner, along with additional prizes totaling another $5,000.
Of course, this begs the question: in a business world seemingly obsessed with efficiency, productivity and organization, why reward those who think filing cabinets are for putting things on top of rather than into?
"The neatness-challenged have been oppressed their entire lives," said Joseph Nour, CEO of Protus IP Solutions, which owns and operates MyFax. "Their parents yelled at them constantly to clean their rooms when they were growing up. Their employee review forms often make negative mention of the state of their offices. Co-workers shudder every time they have to walk into the space. Yet these brave souls persevere. We figure as long as they know where everything is in their offices, what's the harm? We want to celebrate their individuality, and let them know they're not forgotten - even if they are hidden behind the piles of three-year-old magazines."
To enter the MyFax Messy Office Contest, participants should go to www.messyofficecontest.com and upload a photo or video of their office between January 21, 2008 noon EST and February 25, noon EST. Each week, MyFax "mess experts" will select two finalists. The Grand Prize winner will then be chosen in an online poll. Results will be announced by March 5, 2008. For complete contest rules, visit www.messyofficecontest.com.
While MyFax itself is known for reducing clutter by allowing faxes to be sent electronically via an e-mail account or a secure server rather than on paper, Nour says the company isn't looking to "solve" the entire messiness issue.
"Anyone can have a neat and clean office," said Nour. "But it requires a real talent to keep an office that looks like a federal disaster area and still be able to function. Some of my finest executives fall into that category. We hope that the MyFax Messy Office Contest will help liberate these people from the sideways glances of others and allow them to take their rightful place in the business world, without fear of prejudice or others clucking their tongues at them."
